The Calathea Rufibarba is a gorgeous relatively easy to care for house plant with distinctive slim leaves that are deep green on top and dark purple underneath. As well as looking beautiful, this plant will also help to purify the air in your home.
Calathea Rufibarba is sometimes called the Velvet Calathea because it has tiny hairs that cover its leaves and stems, giving the plant a soft, velvety feel.
This plant can grow to 1m and is moderately fast-growing.
Light: Calathea needs plenty of diffused light, not direct sunlight. They can tolerate some degrees of shade but will do much better with lighter conditions.
Temperature: Calathea Rufibarba prefers warmer temperatures, ideally 18-23°C. Avoid fluctuations in temperature, e.g. cold draughts.
Water: Keep the soil moist at all times, but avoid overwatering. Do not let this plant sit in water or very wet soil. Try to water with small amounts regularly.
Humidity: Like most indoor plants, the Calathea Rufibarba likes high humidity levels. You may like to stand this plant on a wet pebble tray to improve humidity levels.
